Giant LG Cellphone Balloon

Giant LG Cellphone Balloon: "LG announced yesterday that in an effort to strengthen its European market the company will be participating in the 2006 European Balloon Tour with a massive cellphone balloon. Yes, it is one big-ass cellphone, and no it doesn’t get any better reception. Good luck on your trip, LG. We hope your massive cellphone doesn’t experience any 'dropped calls.' Oh-ho!

Google Redux: A Greasemonkey facelift for Google

Google Redux: A Greasemonkey facelift for Google: "Filed under: Design, Fun, Google Back in January designer Andy Rutledge took on the task of redesigning Google's home page to make it, how shall we say, more designed. Of course, Rutledge doesn't work for Google and we'll never see it on Google.com--or will we? Tristan Dunn has put together a Greasemonkey script that replaces Google's home page with Rutledge's pretty 'Google Redux' every time you visit. It's pretty weird loading up Google's home page to find something completely new and fresh. The script even checks for Google's fancy holiday logos.

PS3 November delay official -- other deets revealed

PS3 November delay official -- other deets revealed: "Filed under: Gaming, HDTV, Home Entertainment So, not only did we get all those PSP goodies this morn from Sony's Ken Kutaragi at a hastily called press conference, but we also received official confirmation that indeed, the PS3 will ship worldwide in November. A delay from 'Spring' that we all expected but Sony had staunchly denied as recently as just a few weeks ago. Sony lays the blame squarely at the feet of the 'copyright protection' in Sony's own Blu-ray Disc next-gen format which is now expected to be finalized by next month. Whatevs, at this point, we'll just be happy to see ours land Stateside in time for Xmas. Mr. Kutagari also confirmed that at least some PS3s will feature an upgradeable 60GB disk supporting the Linux OS, support a variety of TVs, and play games created for PlayStation 1 and 2. Also, that rumored HUB service was confirmed which goes by the working title of the PlayStation Network Platform and will be free (the Basic version anyway) supporting voice/video chat, messsaging, on-line shopping, and more. While an exact price was not released, a minimum price range was announced of about $425. Click read for the full story over at Joystiq."

Sony Offering Up Stale Blu-ray Titles for May 23 Launch

Sony Offering Up Stale Blu-ray Titles for May 23 Launch: "Sony announced the first Blu-ray disks will be available on May 23, the same day the first Blu-ray player goes on sale. There will be a scant few titles offered up, including such cinematic masterpieces as 50 First Dates, The Fifth Element, Hitch, House of Flying Daggers, A Knight's Tale, The Last Waltz (MGM), Resident Evil: Apocalypse, and XXX. That the whole list, folks.

More releases will follow on June 13, with the list of titles as follows: Kung Fu Hustle, Legends of the Fall, Robocop (MGM), Stealth, Species (MGM), SWAT, and The Terminator (MGM). Gee thanks, Sony.

But the good news is, they will be playable on non HDCP-compliant HDTVs.

Robot bartender listens, makes jokes

Robot bartender listens, makes jokes: "Filed under: Robots

We've got plenty of robots more than happy to get behind the bar for a shift, but we wished they could be a little more personable as they made our gin tonic with soulless precision. We're not talking about dancing on the bar or anything, but we all know how theraputic a long talk with your local bottleman can be (we prefer Lloyd at the Overlook). Enter the University of Saarland's barbot, which understands voice commands and will mix you a drink while telling ingredient-specific jokes (let's hope this feature plays better in German than it would in English) -- it'll even even tell you the alcohol content of your libation. Thanks though, we'll decide for ourselves when enough is enough (unless there's also robo-bouncer present).
