Extend Firefox winners announced


Mozilla's Extend Firefox contest, which challenged developers to make cool extensions for Firefox 1.5, has come to a close and the winners have been announced. Winning the grand prizes were Michael Wu's Reveal for Best New Extension, Chris Pederick's Web Developer for Best Upgraded Extension, and Josep del Rio's Firefox Showcase for Best Use of Firefox 1.5 Features. Each of those developers will get one of these cool Firefox-themed Alienware rigs and a bunch of Firefox swag. On top of that, eight Best In Class winners will be getting an iPod nano, a $250 O'Reilly gift certificate, and more swag

Spam Cube screens spam and viruses before they make it to your box


We're used to seeing a bit of plug-and-play hardware firewall protection, but spam and virus protection usually takes some fiddling around with software and a bit of our precious computerly resources. Well Spam Cube hopes bring the hurt on spam, viruses (email ones at least), and phishing with a new box that stands between you and your broadband modem, flagging or deleting email messages before they get to your Mac or PC's mail program. Spam protection is free, but for the "Security OnDemand" services you'll have to fork over $52 a year. The Spam Cube goes for $150, comes in many colors, and should be available in a month or so.

Samsung SH-B022A, SH-B026A Blu-ray burners


Samsung has begun showing off some of the company's first Blu-ray burners, which are expected to hit retail shelves in April. Heading the pack is the SH-B022A, an internal drive that supports both 25GB single-layer Blue-ray discs and 50GB double-layer discs with 2x write-speeds (so, yeah, you should go grab a meal if you're burning a 50GB BD). The drive also supports DVD burning at 12x and CD burning at 40x. An external version, the SE-B026A, has similar features along with a swanky case

Exclusive Look At Google Payments


Google announced last week on their blog that they will begin to facilitate payments on Google Base in the near future. The blog post from Google pointed out that Google are already accepting payments on their video service as well as when users purchase software such as Google Earth and that this will be extended further in the near future.
